Summer League 2012 Edition

Registration for the 2012 summer league is open through ScoreReport!

Play scheduled to start on Wednesday evenings starting 6:15PM on May 23rd at the ECC Williamsville campus fields for twelve weeks until August 15th (no games on July 4th). In the event of inclement weather canceling play for a week, we have the option to add on the following week of August 22nd.

Please enroll through the link to the ScoreReport site and spread the word to any and all interested participants. Because USA Ultimate insurance coverage requires multiple additional steps including a background check for youth participants including background screening for chaperones, the summer league is not open for registration to players under the age of eighteen.

The registration cost for the summer league is $35. This amount covers the cost of insurance coverage, rental of field space and end of season festivities. In addition, registrants who pay the fee and who submit a completed waiver to the coordinator will receive a USA Ultimate disc (while supplies last).

Lake Effect Survey

We’re looking to gauge interest in club play this summer. Please take this survey to let us know if you are interested and what you availability is like. If you are new to the area, if you have played for Lake Effect in the past, or even if you are just a local player that’s never played with Lake Effect, please fill it out even if you don’t intend to play.

Pickup is Back!

Pickup is back in session at Nokomis Park on Thursdays at 5:45 PM.

Parking is available at the park, but it’s a touch tricky. Here are some quick tips:

For most drivers, your best bet is to approach the park from Union Road.
Turn West onto George Urban Boulevard (by Otto’s).
Turn left on Petan Drive (which will be the second available left hand turn).
Turn right on Nokomis Parkway.
There will be a small parking lot on the left nestled between two houses.

Professional Ultimate Frisbee in Buffalo

The Buffalo Hunters are one of the eight teams in the newly formed American Ultimate Disc League. Over the past several months, they have been running combines throughout the area to put together a team for the upcoming 2012 season. Tickets go on sale soon!

Turf Burn 2012!

It is time for the 6th Annual Turf Burn Ultimate Frisbee Tournament! Turf Burn is an indoor hat-tournament that is focused on providing a casual game atmosphere for players of all skill levels.

Date: Saturday, February 18th, 2012
Time: 6:00pm – Midnight
Where: Total Sports Experience, 880 Elmgrove Road, Rochester, NY
Cost: $20 per person
Includes:
- 5 games
- Food and drinks
- Activities between games
- Prize for championship team

This year there will also be tournament shirts and discs for sale. The format will be similar, except no more ties! There will be overtime to ensure a winner of each game.

Last year we had amazing turnout and reached maximum capacity at 160 players. We expect the same this year so sign up early!

Pickup Will Resume This Spring

Pickup is on hold for the winter season, but will resume in late spring (or whenever the weather cooperates). Last summer, pickup was moved a couple of times, finally ending up at UB. At this time, I’m not sure where pickup will be held next season, but assume that it will be at UB unless otherwise noted on the web site.

Club Practice / Pickup Location Change

Due to the deteriorating condition of the fields at Nokomis Park, we’ll be moving to fields at SUNY Buffalo effective Tuesday, May 31. Here is a map of the location: http://tinyurl.com/LEpractice.

As usual, Lake Effect practices are held on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM and Saturdays at 10:00 AM, and pickup (all are welcome to attend) is on Thursdays at 6:00 PM.
