Hello Buffalo Ultimate Players-
Registration is now open for the 2007 season of the Buffalo Ultimate Summer League. Tell everyone you know!!! The website www.buffaloultimate.org contains all the relevant info and registration form.
To make the league a success we need your help! We’ve designed some fliers with information about the league. We’d love it if everyone printed out and posted the fliers at your school, workplace, gym, anywhere you think potential ultimate players might see it. Also please feel free to distribute the flyers electronically - http://www.buffaloultimate.org/BUSL_flyer_v3.pdf http://www.buffaloultimate.org/BUSL_FlyerII.pdf
Looking forward to seeing you on the field. Please feel free to send us note by responding to this message or using the website.
Cheers, Seth

Hey all,
For those who haven’t made it out yet, pickup games have been great so far! Right now they’re on Saturdays, but if you want to also have pickup games on other days of the week, reply to this message. If there’s enough interest in doing it some other night(s), we can post that on the site.

Hey all,
Just a quick post–we’ve scheduled the first pickup game for the Spring for April 14. We hope by then the weather will be predictably warm and not-as-muddy-as-March by then. Checkout the pickup page for more information. Post a message on this page or on the pickup page if you plan on attending, or if you just want your voice to be heard, doggonit!
I can’t wait to get outdoors and play, and I’m sure I’m not the only one! See you all out there!

Hey all,
Seth and I have been redesigning the page so that we can best inform you of what’s going on with Ultimate in Buffalo. In the process, the site has undergone a bit of an organizational overhaul, so please bear with us while we all get used to a bit of a new look.
If you have any feedback about the page, please send me an email at jdtroisi@buffalo.edu. Such feedback might include content that you think should be on the site, links to external websites, photos of Ultimate in Buffalo (if you have some, send them to me!) etc..

I received the following from a Clarkson Ultimate group…enjoy! Dino You should know the rules. It is a really good thing to know what you need to do, what happens, or what fouls you can call (ie, what fouls the other team CAN’T call so you know when you can tell them they are full of shit). Anyhoo, read it if you want to. 11th edition rules
substantive changes from 10th edition
PS: I stole these links from the RPI mailing list. Batman actually made this quiz for people to do if they wanted. Yes, he did acknowlegde the fact of his extreme toolishness. The title of the email was “i have stooped to a new, sad level of ultimate nerdiness”
1) An offensive player catches a disc, his first point of contact is in bounds, but his momentum carries him out of bounds.
As a defender, at what points are you allowed to stall the player? What must the offensive player do before he can pass the disc?
2) A defensive player jumps from in bounds, catches a disc in the air, and lands out of bounds. What happens before play resumes?
3) How do you call a timeout? Who can call a timeout?
4) A defensive player calls a pick. The offensive player he is guarding doesn’t stop for 2 seconds. Where does the offensive player have to go when he stops? Does he have any choices? Where does the defender go?
5) An offensive player jumps from in bounds, catches a disc, and is fouled while above out of bounds ground. What is the outcome of this play if the foul is uncontested? Contested?
6) An offender attempts to throw a backhand into the completely stationary hand of Chris Weyers. In doing so, he drops the disc. What happens? What if Chris was moving his hand?
7) A pull lands out of bounds. The offensive player calls for a brick and while walking to the brick mark, gently tosses the disc to himself. What happens?
8) The defense is standing near a live disc. The offense is nowhere nearby. What is the procedure for initiating a stall count? What if an offensive player is standing over a disc or walking around it?
9) What is the difference between “putting a disc in play” and “checking” a disc? Which of the following situations call for a check, and which for “putting the disc into play” (they really should have a word for this)?
a) An offensive player catches a disc short of the endzone, but his momentum carries him into the endzone b) A disc lands out of bounds on a pull c) A disc rolls out of bounds on a pull d) A disc lands incomplete after a contested stall e) An uncontested stall
10) As an offensive player, you have the disc on the line and there are opposing players or objects in the way. What call can you make in this situation? How close do the players/objects have to be? What if the players are on your own team?
11) What is the procedure for putting the disc into play after a contested stall? What if this results in a second contested stall as a result of a fast count?
12) How awesome is the new definition of disc space?
13) An offensive player touches a disc while short of the endzone but unintentionally bobbles the catch. He resumes control in the endzone. Is this a score?
14) An offensive player intentionally macks a disc in order to catch it (perhaps he knows his defender will sky him otherwise). What is the outcome of this play?
15) An offensive player catches a disc near the out-of-bounds line. You, a lazy defender, did nothing but watch his feet, and think he is out of bounds. He insists he caught the disc in bounds. How is this situation resolved?
16) A defensive player calls a pic. The player with the disc does not hear him, continues to fake throws, etc. and gets stalled. He does not contest that the stall reached 10. What happens?
17) A disc is thrown to Zac Hilton in the end zone, but he misreads it and it sails over his head. An ever eager Steve Calabrese was chasing the disc also, but his defender ran into him and he awkwardly fell over. Steve calls a foul. His defender does not contest the foul but claims he could not have made it to the disc. What is the outcome of this play if Steve is adament that he could have? What if he realizes he couldn’t?
18) A disc is thrown to Zac Hilton in the end zone, but this time he catches it. However, his defender fouls him as he is landing. The foul is uncontested, what happens? What if the foul had occured before Zac caught the disc (how is this disc put into play?)
19) Like an idiot, I accidently establish my right foot as a pivot. A defender calls a pick. Can I change my pivot?
20) How embarassed should I be for creating this quiz?
